Why Didn’t BET allow Chris Brown to perform?
If you are like me, you were under the impression that BET would allow Chris Brown to perform a tribute to Michael Jackson this year at their awards show. Especially after an appearance from Don Cornelius (who beat his wife), I thought the Chris Brown performance was a “go”. However the BET AWards show ended with a performance by Ne-Yo (who had took to the stage atleast 3 times prior) and Jamie Foxx but no Chris Brown.

From what I hear, Chris Brown really wanted to perform at this year’s Awards show and was willing to pay to make it happen (hmmm). In fact, I hear BET eventually gave him the green light to perform before calling him back with the news that it probably wouldn’t be in their best interest. Why??? Let’s just say, Cover Girl (endorsed by Rihanna) was one of the sponsors of this year’s BET Awards and they threatened they would pull their sponsorship from the Awards show if they allowed Chris to perform. Of course whatever the amount was that Chris “allegedly” was willing to pay wouldn’t offset the money lost from the Cover Girl sponsorship and BET would be better off turning Chris down than to tarnish their relationship with CG. *this could be rumor but I heard this from a very reliable source*. Also, I’m hearing that Jay-z told BET if Chris performed then he would pull out but again this is just rumor.

Chris Brown - “Ransom” featuring RockCity

After Chris Brown wrapped up his felony assault case on June 22 with a plea deal, many fans wondered exactly when and where the R&B star would make his return to the stage. It turns out an unimaginable tragedy for the music community has made that return sooner than anyone thought.

Brown will perform on stage at Sunday’s BET Awards as a part of a special tribute to the fallen King of Pop, Michael Jackson, Access Hollywood confirmed today.

Producers for the show have been scrambling to revamp the ceremony to honor Jackson since he died unexpectedly Thursday (June 25), but luckily there was no shortage of stars willing to take part in the many tributes planned.

Throughout his career, Brown has made no secret of the fact that he idolized Jackson. For his 2007 MTV VMAs performance, Brown owned the stage with a masterful Jackson imitation in the middle of performing his hits “Wall to Wall” and “Kiss Kiss.”

During his tour of Australia and Europe last year, the 20-year-old took time out every night to perform a few Jackson hits and recite the famous breakdown dance to “Thriller.”

“Michael Jackson is the reason why I do music and why I am an entertainer,” Brown said in a statement after learning of his idol’s passing. “I will continue to be humbled and inspired by his legacy.”

The admiration was mutual. “Chris is a bright and shining star whom I enjoy watching perform,” Jackson said of the young star in 2007. “I am happy to have had a positive influence on him.”

One of the artists of today that has garnered the most comparisons to a young Michael Jackson is Chris Brown. Like Jackson, Brown has been called a “complete package,” combining fashion sense, singing and dancing talent. Brown paid an amazing homage to the timeless icon at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, mimicking MJ’s iconic moves.

“Michael Jackson is the reason why I do music and why I am an entertainer,” Brown said in a statement. “I am devastated by this great loss, and I will continue to be humbled and inspired by his legacy. My prayers are with his family. Michael will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. He’s the greatest … the best ever. No one will ever be better.”

Chris Brown is still putting the finishing touches on his third studio album, Graffiti, which Chris is slated to release a single for this summer.

Of the new material from Chris is the Neptunes-produced “Not My Fault.” Although the track sounds a little unfinished, it seems as though Chris is pulling in the best and brightest to stay afloat with this next album.

Chris Brown - “Not My Fault”

I’ve added 29 more photos of Chris Brown during his court appearance today. Also if you look at some of the thumbnails below it shows Chris Brown being handed the terms of the ‘Stay Away’ order after pleading guilty to assaulting his former girlfriend pop start Rihanna. And fans in the background supporting Chris by holding up posters and magazines he was featured on.

Chris Brown has copped a plea in his assault case. He won’t do jail time, but he will spend 6 months doing things like road cleanup. He’s also been ordered to stay 50 yards clear of Rihanna.

He’ll spend 180 days doing hard labor in Virginia which is where Brown lives - it’s equivalent to Caltrans or graffiti cleanup.

He gets 5 years probation for FELONY assault — he pled guilty. He’ll get supervised probation. He’ll have to come back to court every three months.

He must enroll in a domestic violence counseling program.

This is interesting … the judge said if Brown and Rihanna are at the same public events, the 50-yard stay away turns into 10 yards. The stay away order lasts 5 years.

The judge said she wanted to make sure that Chris Brown “was treated as any other person who comes through this court.”

If Brown violates probation, he could get up to 4 years in prison.

Rihanna is in the courthouse but never entered the courtroom.

So Brown is now a convicted felon and loses the right to vote or carry a gun.

Brown left the courtroom … just after he left, Rihanna walked in the courtroom. The judge is now explaining the deal to her. The judge is telling Rihanna about the protective order.

LOS ANGELES – Chris Brown’s felony assault case is about to enter a key phase.

The R&B singer is due back in court Monday afternoon for a preliminary hearing that could feature testimony from Rihanna and a crucial ruling by a judge in Los Angeles.

Brown was arrested in February on suspicion of hitting and threatening then-girlfriend Rihanna after a pre-Grammy party.

A judge will decide after listening to testimony whether the case against Brown should continue to trial.

Dozens of reporters have signed up to cover Monday’s hearing, which is expected to last several hours.

Rihanna’s attorney, Donald Etra, says the 21-year-old singer will appear and testify if she is called to the stand.
