At 20, pop star Chris Brown is not old enough to buy a beer without breaking the law. But he got himself into a world of legal trouble when he assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna in February.
“We have to be like 10 yards away from each other,” Brown told CNN’s Larry King in an exclusive that airs Wednesday night, his first television interview since the arrest.
Brown said he still loves singer Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty.
But, he added, it is tough for him to look at the photo showing Rihanna’s battered face, the one image that might haunt and define him forever.
“When I look at it now, it’s just like, wow, like, I can’t believe that that actually happened,” Brown said. He does not remember hitting the singer, he said.
Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault on June 22. The deal keeps him out of jail. A second felony charge, making criminal threats, was dropped. He was sentenced to five years probation and six months of community labor.
“It means he walks the straight and narrow for five years,” said Mark Geragos, Brown’s attorney. “I’ve grown to love this kid like a son or a nephew. I have a high degree of confidence. I’ll say it now so that you can play it back if he ever does anything, but a high degree of confidence that he’s not going to do anything like this in the future.”
Brown calls the sentence fair and agrees that everything comes with consequences.
“They want me to pick up trash, remove graffiti,” he said. “I’m a hard worker, it’s something I’m willing to do.”
Why did it happen? How did it happen?
Those are questions Brown and his mother, Joyce Hawkins, have been asking.
“Chris has never, ever been a violent person, ever,” Hawkins said.
She said her husband was abusive — and Brown knew it. “I used to be scared to go to bed,” the pop star said.
Brown said he is not blaming that for the attack on Rihanna. But, he added, nobody taught him how to control his emotions and anger.
Rihanna calls Brown’s mother “Mom.” The two have spoken and seen each other periodically since the incident. The court order that prevents her son from seeing Rihanna does not extend to Hawkins.
“I let her know that I was very, very baffled, what had happened and apologized for my son, along with I’m so sorry what happened to you,” Hawkins said.
“And I didn’t know what — I didn’t know what else to say, and I gave her a hug and she hugged me as well.” Hawkins starts sobbing.
The singer has not seen Rihanna for a couple of months, and said the separation has been difficult, especially when it comes to her dating others.
“I definitely would be affected by it, but at the end of the day, I mean, we’re not together, so if she’s happy, I’m cool.”
But we’ll always be friends, Brown said.
For now, his goal is to prove that he can be a role model.
“That’s not who I am as a person, and that’s not who I promise I want to be,” he said.

I think he’s saying he don’t remember doing all that’s in the police report. The police report/affidavit is pro-DA. Its trying to build the cases against the accused. I think he’s going to take responsibility for it. That is only a 30 sec clip.

Whenpeople are in a rage they snap quickly and then when they re-emerge it’s like what the hell did I just do-have you ever noticed (for those of you that drive) you can drive from point a to point b w/o ever really remembering all the stop lights in between? we were talking about this on the forums & i thought it was very interesting.
we were talking about how chris doesn’t remember what happened that night. a lot of people are probably thinking “well how the fuck doesn’t he remember? he beat her to a bloody pulp”. to us, it’s not normal, but in medical terms its not rare.
a nurse on the forum explained it to us.
she said chris’ short memory was probably caused by high adrenaline, things were happening way too fast & moving too quickly for him to be able to get a grip on it. for all we know he probably could’ve just been holding her arm & telling her to calm down, but the way she reacted could’ve caused her to hurt herself but the way things were going about chris wasn’t able to evaluate everything to his mind. even chris was in shock when he read the police report, all he could say was “wow”. he doesn’t remember what happened, but he knows the police report wasn’t the truth.
i’m not saying this is what happened, but it was a very good point brought up.

I agree his PR team and lawyers SUCK! They dropped the ball way to many times. Any PR team worth their salt should have been able to handle this situation 10x better than what they did.In the end CB will be find but alot of the media bashing could have been shut down months ago IMO.
I will be watching the interview. I am glad he was so open and honest with PEOPLE mag about his feelings for Rihanna.

There have been reports on the internet that I didn’t remember what happened that night with Rihanna. I want to try and set things straight.
That 30 seconds of the interview they used of me was taken from a one hour interview during which that same question was asked something like 4 or 5 times — and when you look at the entire interview you will see it is not representative of what I said.
The first four times – or how ever many times it was – I gave the same answer — which was that I didn’t think it was appropriate for me to talk about what happened that night. I said it was not right for me and it really wasn’t fair to Rihanna. The fifth time – or whatever it was – I just misspoke. I was asked, “Do you remember doing it?” and I said, “No.”
Of course I remember what happened. Several times during the interview, my mother said that I came to her right afterwards and told her everything. But it was and still is a blur. And yes, I still can’t believe it happened because it is not me or who I am or is what happened like anything I have ever done before.
As I have said several times previously, I am ashamed of and sorry for what happened that night and I wish I could relive that moment and change things, but I can’t. I take full responsibility for my actions. What I have to do now is to prove to the world that this was an isolated incident and that is not who I am and I intend to do so by my behavior now and in the future.”

I have to agree with No comment, the PR team Sucks lol. The past 7 months i’ve been scratching my head about some of the decisions they’ve made or allowed Chris to make. Yes he’s young and should enjoy life. But he also has to be extra careful to rebuild his image if thats the ultimate goal.

we were talking about how chris doesn’t remember what happened that night. a lot of people are probably thinking “well how the fuck doesn’t he remember? he beat her to a bloody pulp”. to us, it’s not normal, but in medical terms its not rare.
a nurse on the forum explained it to us.
she said chris’ short memory was probably caused by high adrenaline, things were happening way too fast & moving too quickly for him to be able to get a grip on it. for all we know he probably could’ve just been holding her arm & telling her to calm down, but the way she reacted could’ve caused her to hurt herself but the way things were going about chris wasn’t able to evaluate everything to his mind. even chris was in shock when he read the police report, all he could say was “wow”. he doesn’t remember what happened, but he knows the police report wasn’t the truth.

That 30 seconds of the interview they used of me was taken from a one hour interview during which that same question was asked something like 4 or 5 times — and when you look at the entire interview you will see it is not representative of what I said.
The first four times – or how ever many times it was – I gave the same answer — which was that I didn’t think it was appropriate for me to talk about what happened that night. I said it was not right for me and it really wasn’t fair to Rihanna. The fifth time – or whatever it was – I just misspoke. I was asked, “Do you remember doing it?” and I said, “No.”
Of course I remember what happened. Several times during the interview, my mother said that I came to her right afterwards and told her everything. But it was and still is a blur. And yes, I still can’t believe it happened because it is not me or who I am or is what happened like anything I have ever done before.
As I have said several times previously, I am ashamed of and sorry for what happened that night and I wish I could relive that moment and change things, but I can’t. I take full responsibility for my actions. What I have to do now is to prove to the world that this was an isolated incident and that is not who I am and I intend to do so by my behavior now and in the future.”
